Renaming and Deleting Topic Files

File naming strategies are an integral part of any file based management system and you should take great care in planning your system. The file system information page suggests a few approches you might want to consider.

Whatever choice you make, you'll eventually want to rename one of your files and Tópico makes it easy to do so.

Renaming a topic file

  1. Double-click the id that's just right of the tab labels;
  2. Enter the new ID;
  3. Click Ok.

Tópico will rename all (languages) files associated with this id and replace all occurences of links to this page from within the collection. Make sure your file naming system isn't a source of confusion in your projects.

Deleting a topic file

When removing a topic from a collection, you have the choice to keep the associated file or not.

To remove a topic, follow these steps:

  1. Select the node in the treeview;
  2. Click on the Edit button above the tree view
    or right click on the treeview node;
  3. From the pop up menu, select Delete;
  4. Click Yes to remove the topic from the collection;
  5. Click Yes again to delete the file permanently.
Warning

Note that the file is permanently deleted and that this operation cannot be undone. Make sure you always keep a recent backup copy of your collection.

Tip

Before deleting files, you can backup your collection through the main menu by selecting Tools > Options > Backup > Source files.
