Stylesheet, templates and user types

Some of the assumptions about different user types that were made while developing Tópico are:

  • Casual users will create and organize topics, edit content, select a publishing package, options and tweak a few stylesheet parameters as shown the intermediate tutorials.
  • Power users will modify stylesheets, create new semantic styles, and tweak a few templates as shown in the advanced tutorials.
  • Web developers will create new publishing packages (scripts, templates, stylesheets) and/or use published xml sources in other applications or processes.(1)

(1) Such application could be updating xml source files for a Flash web site or a small multilingual server scripted web site.

Cascading Stylesheets is the key to making your online pages better looking and highly maintanable!

Templates used by %product_name% are standard XSLT templates you can edit with any text editor of your choice. When you select a template for editing in %product_name%, the program associated with files having the extension ".xsl" is launched to edit the template.

The publishing process is a series of steps your topics go through when you click the Publish button. It can also be seen as a simple two step process, where topics and the map are pre-processed first to gather important information about the collection and then transformed into the target publication.
