After creating a new collection

Remove unused languages ...top

Removing unused languages clears unwanted files from the collection/xml source folder. It also removes the lnaguages drop down from the toolbar.

Rename the XSLT and CSS file ...top

Renaming the XSLT and CSS files makes sure you will not erase any customization by selecting a different publishing package.

While editing a collection

Disable external processes/scripts ...top

Disabeling external scripts prevents waiting for a lenghty process to complete when you just wanted to check something by publishing locally. It might also prevent publishing at a remote location something you think is just not ready.

This scenario implies using an external script, like the ones found in the default collection's script folder, that copies the online folder to a different location after the publication process. Learn more about Running External Programs and Scripts.

Backup your collection source files on a regular basis ...top

Backing up your collection source files takes only a little disk space but might prevent the loss of information in the event anything bad happened to a topic or the collection file.

If you don't do it, you will eventually regret you didn't.
