Adding links to your topics is what makes your collection richer and easier to navigate. Tópico provides you with many ways and time saving features to add links to your topics.
Adding a link to another topic in the collection
Select the link text and click on the link toolbar buttonat the top of the editor. If your plan is to publish from within Tópico to HTML, enter the name of the "published" target file, which is the "id" of the topic plus the ".html" extension.
To create a link to a file with the identifier "my_page", you would enter "my_page.html".

Adding a link trough the Topic drop down list
An option registered users might also find convenient is to select the target topic title from the Topic drop down list above the editor. This creates a link to the selected file at the current cursor location and the title of the page is automatically used as the link text.
If you plan to use your source files in some other application that will access the raw XML content, like a dynamic web site, it is suggested that you use only the file identifier when creating links. This can be done by right cliking on the Topics drop down list and removing the check mark before Add extension.
The professional edition can automatically append the ".html" extension, or any other extension you desire, to every link during the publishing process.
Adding links trough the tree view
Registered users can also add links through the tree view control. To add al ink with the tree view, follow these steps:
- Right click on the target topic in the tree view;
- Select "Copy target file name" from the popup menu;
- Select the link text in your current topic;
- Click on the link button in the toolbar;
- Press Ctrl+V to paste the target file name in the href attribute;
- Click Ok.
Registered users can also select "Insert link" from the popup menu for even faster results! When you add a link this way, the selected text is used for the link. If no text is selected, the target topic nav title is used as the link text.
Adding links to any topic or web page
By selecting some text and clicking on the link button, you can add a link to any page of your choice, either on the same server or anywhere else on the internet.
If your online folder contains HTML pages you're not editing through Tópico, make sure they use a different file extension than the one defined in the advanced tab (.html by default). This will prevent your custom files from being deleted by the cleanup routine when the option to Purge HTML is selected!
Links to sub topics
Tópico can automatically add links to sub pages, along with a short description, at the bottom of a published topic. Publishing links to sub pages provides your readers with progressive disclosure of your content.
