Backing Up Your Collections

Have you ever needed to revert to a previous version of your work? Tópico makes it easy to backup your collection at any time. Saving only the source (text based) files, the images or the whole publication, inclusing the output HTML files. Requires a registered edition of Tópico (personal or professional)

Your whole publication or web site in a zip file

If you'd like to distribute your publication as a zipped web site, this first backup option is for you. Follow these steps to email you complete web sites to anyone with an email account and a web browser.

  1. From the main menu, select Tools>Backup>Publication

The backup (zip) files is named after the collection's file name root (without the .topico) extension, to which is appended a standard date stamp in the form of yyyymmdd. As an example, if this collection was published on 2007-03-06, the zip file would be named user_guide.20070306.zip.

Backing up the source files

When you backup your source files, most of the files making up your publication are copied in a zip file that is found in the backup folder, under the collection's root folder. The sources files are all the text files (xml, xsl, css, scripts) contained in your collection.

To backup your the source files:

  1. From the main menu, select Tools>Backup>Source files

The backup (zip) file is named after the collection's file name (*.topico), to which is appended a standard time stamp in the form of yyyymmddThhmmss. Source files also have the .src extension.

The following files are saved along with the collection master file:

  • custom styles;
  • custom snippets;
  • source files (xml folder);
  • scripts (online/scripts folder);
  • styles (online/styles folder);
  • templates (online/xsl folder).

Backing up the image files

The image files are all the files with the gif, jpg or png extension that are found in your collection's online/images folder.

To backup your the image files:

  1. From the main menu, select Tools>Backup>Image files

The backup (zip) files is named after the collection's file name (*.topico), to which is appended a standard time stamp in the form of yyyymmddThhmmss. Images backup also have the .img extension.

Backing up the complete publication

You can also save a copy of the whole publication, which is all the source files plus everything found in the online folder. This also includes any other folder that might exists but that is not under the management of Tópico.

. To backup your the complete publication:

  1. From the main menu, select Tools>Backup>All files

The backup (zip) files is named after the collection's file name (*.topico), to which is appended a standard time stamp in the form of yyyymmddThhmmss. Full backup also have the .full extension.

Tip

Backup your collection on a regular basis. One day, you will be happy you did!

Warning

Backing up complete collections can create large files. Backing up source files and image files separately might be seen as a better practice.
