In this tutorial, you'll learn what to upload to your web server to make your publication available online.
After going through all the work required to publish a professional collection, you can upload your creation on a web server for the whole world to see it.
Here are the steps you're most likely to follow during this task:
- Setup a web site folder with your ISP;
- Download an FTP software;
- Configure your FPT software;
- Upload your collection;
Let's briefly discuss each of those steps.
Setup a web site folder with your ISP
To upload your collection to the web, you'll need to arrange a web site folder with your ISP (Internet Service Provider). Most providers already have this folder setup with each account so it should be just a matter of asking your ISP.
Download an FTP software
To upload your collection to a web server, you'll need an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program that can connect to your ISP server.
Many software can be used. You should be able to find one that fits your need by clicking one of the following links:
Configure your FPT software
After installing an FTP software, you'll create a connection by following your specific software instruction. This task will typically involve entering the following information:
- The IP address of the FTP server
- Your user name
- Your password
When this information is entered in the connection profile, you need to connect to your FTP server to upload your collection.
Upload your collection
Once connected to your web server, you should upload the following files and folders found in the collection's online folder.
- All the HTML files
- The images folder
- The scripts folder
- The styles folder
Uploading the content of the xml and xsl folders is only required for dynamic publications. See Setting up a dynamic web site in the User guide section for more information on this topic.
